THE GAME FACTS

The Short Story:  The Roanoke women's soccer team controlled the game with its cross-town rival in a 9-0 route of Hollins on Saturday afternoon in Roanoke.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Makayla Metzler opened the scoring for Roanoke at 19:09 with an unassisted goal.
  • The Maroons would then three more goals over the next nine minutes with Vendela Svaerd scoring on a penalty kick, Rebecca Carr scoring her six goal of the season and Lauren Fisher scoring her first.
  • Madalyn Szoke, Shelby Tashjian, and Irene Orndorff all added goals for the Maroons before halftime with Roanoke leading 7-0.
  • Tasha Miller added one just seven and half minutes into the resumption of play with Svaerd scoring her second of the contest in the 71st minute.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Maroons have now won the past 22 meetings between the two teams, dating back to October 1, 2000.
  • It was also the 20th time in the series that Roanoke has gotten a shutout.
  • Grace Suchy started for the Maroons in goal, earning her first career win while making a save. Victoria Correll played the second half for Roanoke, making a save to help preserve the shutout.

  • Roanoke returns to Kerr Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 11 for a midweek ODAC contest with Guilford. Game time with the Quakers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
