Maroons Draw With Guilford in ODAC Action

THE GAME FACTS
Score: Roanoke 1, Guilford 1

The Short Story:  After a scoreless half, both teams found the back of the net in the final 45 minutes as the Roanoke women's soccer team earned a draw with the Quakers of Guilford on Wednesday night at Kerr Stadium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams' defense held strong in the first half with neither able to score. Both teams took one shot on goal and both goalies were able to make saves.
  • Coming out of the halftime intermission, Guilford was able to sneak a goal in the very left of the goal box at 47:24 to take a 1-0 lead.
  • It was in the 75th minute that off a free kick from the far right of the goal that MC Petrucelli took the kick from Lauren Rubino and scored on the bottom right corner of the goal to level the match at 1-1 at 74:54.
  • The Maroons held the Quakers without a shot in the final 15 minutes, taking four themselves but could not score as the two teams earned the draw.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Roanoke outshot the Quakers 11-4 with five in the first half and six in the second.
  • The Maroons also led in corner kicks 5-3.
  • Hannah Aemisegger and Taylor Gallik each played 45 minutes in goal for Roanoke with Aemisegger making one save.

  • Roanoke hits the road on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they begin a three-match road trip, starting with a visit to Eastern Mennonite. Game time with the Royals in Harrisonburg is scheduled for 3 p.m.
