Last Minute Goal Earns Maroons a Draw With Shenandoah

THE GAME FACTS
Score: Roanoke 1, Shenandoah 1
Location: Winchester, Va.

The Short Story:  In a game that came down to the final minutes, the Roanoke women's soccer team left Winchester with a 1-1 tie against Shenandoah on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Hornets got on the scoreboard first in the 23rd minute to take the 1-0 lead into halftime
  • Strong defenses continued into the second half with neither team scoring until Morgan O'Neill found Rebecca Carr with 2:26 left for the equalizing goal.
  • The two teams walked away after 90 minutes with a 1-1 draw.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Both teams had five shots on goal and each set of goalies made four saves.
  • The tie was the fourth in the all-time series between the teams with all four ties by identical 1-1 scores. 

UP NEXT

  • Roanoke stays on the road this weekend with an ODAC contest at Hollins on Sat. Oct. 7. Game time with the cross-town rival is scheduled for 1 p.m.
