The Short Story: The Roanoke women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday in our nation's capital with a win over Penn State Berks before falling to host Gallaudet to close out the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a quick match against the Lions with the Maroons sweeping for the win.
- Despite PSUB taking the first four points, Roanoke would answer with a 6-0 run to take the lead, one that they would never let the Lions take back. With the score tied up at 17-12 in favor of the Maroons, Roanoke went on an 8-0 run to close out the set 25-12.
- Set two saw the Maroons start on a 16-1 run before splitting the next 18 points, nine to each team, with Roanoke taking the second set 25-10
- It was a 9-1 start for RC in the third set, before the Lions would pull within four at 14-10. The Maroons would stretch it their lead over the rest of the set, closing it out 25-17, and the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was three close sets for the Maroons against the host Bison
- The teams went back and forth early in the first before GU would take a 20-13 lead. The Maroons brought it back to within one at 22-21 with an 8-1 run. However the Bison closed out the set winning the final three points.
- GU led by as many as seven midway through the second set before Roanoke trimmed it down to one at 23-22 and 24-23. But the hosts got a kill to close out the set and take a 2-0 match lead.
- The Bison led by as many as nine at 16-7 and the Maroons closed within four late, but GU took the third set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Rylee Mayer led all with 12 kills in the match.
- Draper finished with the team-high 16 assists.

- Roanoke closes out ODAC play this week at home, first on Tuesday, Oct. 31 when Washington and Lee pays a visit to the Cregger Center. Game time with the Generals is scheduled for 7 p.m.
