The Short Story: The Roanoke women's volleyball team kicked off its non-conference week with a Tuesday night road trip to take on Virginia University of Lynchburg. The match with the Dragons took place at Williams Gymnasium on the campus of Sweet Briar College where the Maroons swept the host team, 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set saw the Maroons take early 9-2 and 13-4 leads over VUL before the hosts went on a 6-1 run to cut the score down to five at 19-14. The Dragons would chip away and use another 3-0 run to get within two at 23-21, but a kill by Sara Waller sealed the first set 25-22 for Roanoke.
- The two teams kept it close in the early goings of the second set with the Maroons holding onto an 8-6 lead. However, an 8-1 run by Roanoke would stretch its lead to nine at 16-7. The Maroons would lead by as many as 13 during the set before settling in for the 25-13 set two win, and 2-0 match lead.
- The beginning of the third was closer than either of the first two with the teams tied up at 7-7. But a 10-1 run saw the Maroons jump out in front 17-8. From there it was short two to three point runs by both teams the rest of the way, including the final two from the Maroons with a kill by Carly Lundgren and an Ande Davis service ace for the 25-14 set three win, as Roanoke claimed the match 3-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The .377 attack percentage was the highest for the Maroons this season and the highest since a 3-0 sweep of Mary Baldwin on Oct. 21, 2021.
- The Maroons led in kills (39-21), aces (11-7), assists (31-19), and digs (22-21).
- Ryanna Clark led all players with a match-high 11 kills and a .421 attack percentage.

- Roanoke continues its non-conference week with a weekend visit to Gallaudet on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Maroons will play a pair of matches in Washington, D.C., first with the Penn State Berks Lions at 2 p.m. before playing the host Bison at 4 p.m.
