The Short Story:  The Roanoke men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 4-2 setback to Averett on Wednesday evening in Danville.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead, less than 10 minutes into the game with a goal at 9:59. It was a lead the home team would keep until the second half.
• At 52:16, Michael Ramsey tied up the score at 1-1 with an unassisted goal. However, less than two minutes later AU retook the lead with a goal at 54:06.
• Once again, the Maroons would tie the score at 2-2 when Florin Wyss converted a penalty kick at 71:36. 
• The Cougars would score the game winner at 73:44 before adding an insurance goal on their own penalty kick at 83:28 for the 4-2 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

• Despite leading 20-11 in shots, including 15-7 in the second half, the Maroons only had nine shots on goal. 
• Ramsey fired five shots, all on goal to lead the Maroons. 
• Al Cavagnaro and Luca Gustafson split time in goal with Cavagnaro making a pair of saves.

UP NEXT

• Following the rest of the regular season results from around the ODAC, the Maroons have earned the No. 6 seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. 
• Roanoke will hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 28 when they visit No. 3 seed Virginia Wesleyan. Game time with the Marlins is tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m.
• The Maroons dropped a 2-0 contest to VWU back on Oct. 7.
