Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Maroons Close Out Home Schedule With 3-1 Win Over Randolph

THE GAME FACTS
Score:
 Roanoke 3, Randolph 1
Location: Salem, Va.

The Short Story:  The Roanoke men's soccer team closed out the home portion of the regular season on a high note, downing the Randolph WildCats on Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium, 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It did not take too long for the Maroons to get on the scoreboard when Jake Berecz found Ryan Pidgeon in front of the WildCat goal where Pidgeon headed in the ball at 5:40, giving the Maroons a 1-0 lead.
  • Just 2:27 later, a pass at midfield by Randolph and then a play around a defender saw the WildCats tie the score up at 1-1 on a long goal at 8:07.
  • Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half for the 1-1 stalemate at the break.
  • Once again it was not long into the period before the Maroons scored. This time Berecz got a pass about 30 yards out and made moves around a Randolph defender and fired a cross box shot to the opposite corner for the Roanoke goal at 49:59.
  • In the 68th minute, Dylan Berk sent in a corner kick to the far side of the box where Will Fatzinger leaped and headed in an insurance goal, putting the Maroons up 3-1 at 67:51.
  • The defenses for both teams locked in the final 22 minutes as neither squad could score as the Maroons finished with the 3-1 win.
UP NEXT
  • Roanoke hits the road for the second to last regular season contest on Saturday, Oct. 21 when it travels to Ashland to take on Randolph-Macon. Game time with the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
