The Short Story: After dropping the first set, the Roanoke women's volleyball team claimed the next two sets and were poised to win against Randolph-Macon. However, the Yellow Jackets would come back and escape the Cregger Center in a deciding fifth set to win 3-2 over the Maroons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set saw the teams trade points early on before RMC went on an 8-1 run and pulled ahead 15-7. The Yellow would go on to claim the first set 25-16.
- The second set looked like it would go the way of the first with the Yellow Jacket leading 10-5 early. Trailing 12-8, Roanoke went on a 9-0 run to take a 17-12 lead. After RMC pulled within one, the Maroons went back up by a few and would win the final five points of the set to level the match 1-1 with a 25-18 set two win.
- The third set saw Roanoke go on several mini runs, including an 8-3 run midway through to take an 22-12 lead. A Maroon kill and a service ace would seal set two for Roanoke and gave them a 2-1 match lead.
- The Yellow Jackets went on a 7-0 early in the fourth set and slowly pulled away to level the match with a 25-13 set four win.
- The deciding set saw RMC use a pair of two-point quick runs to give themselves a 7-3 lead. The Maroons pulled back within two at 10-8, but RMC claimed the final four points for the 15-9 set five win.
