The Short Story:  The Roanoke field hockey team aimed to wreck homecoming for EMU and that is what they did. The Maroons scored a pair of goals in the first quarter en route to a 4-0 shutout over the Royals on Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• It did not take long for the Maroons to get on the board as Saige Bullock scored what would become the game-winner just 1:25 into the game.
• Elyse Cosgrave added an insurance goal in the first quarter at 12:14, giving the Maroons a 2-0 lead.
• Just 56 seconds in to the second period Kaitlin Thompson found the back of the box with her first career goal.
• Grace Vernarelli added the final goal of the day at 32:30 before the teams settled into their defenses.

BY THE NUMBERS

• Madison Wingerter picked up her fifth win of the season playing all 60 minutes while only needing to make one save.
• The Maroons took the first 24 shots of the game and finished with a 39-1 advantage in the category.
• Roanoke also took advantage of 15 penalty corners while not allowing the Royals to take even one.
