Men's Soccer Tames Panthers With 1-0 Shutout on The Road

The Short Story:  The Maroons scored early in the first half before the defense took over as the Roanoke men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 shutout over Ferrum on Wednesday evening on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It did not take long for Roanoke to get on the scoreboard against the Panthers as Will Fatzinger tapped the ball to Ryan Pidgeon who fired a goal from just inside the 18 and put the ball to the low right side past the Ferrum goalie for the 1-0 Maroon lead. It was the first shot by either team in the game.
  • Both team would take three total shots in the first 45 minutes of action with Roanoke hanging on to the 1-0 advantage.
  • The Maroon defense stepped up in the second half allowing just two Ferrum shots while the offense fired off nine, including four on goal, but neither team was able to score as Roanoke left Penn-Roediger Field with the 1-0 shutout.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Al Cavagnaro got the start for the for the Maroons playing the first 45 minutes, making one save, and earning his first career win.
  • Luca Gustafson played the final 45 minutes for Roanoke, preserving the win.

UP NEXT

  • Roanoke is back home on Saturday, Oct. 14 when it hosts Shenandoah at Kerr Stadium. Game time with the Hornets is scheduled for 7 p.m.
