The Short Story: The Roanoke women's volleyball team saw its five-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday evening when Virginia Wesleyan gave the Maroons a 3-0 set back at the Cregger Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Most of the first set was back and forth in points as neither team was able to build a substantial lead on the other. Late in the set the Maroons had a 18-16 lead before VWU tied the match up at 21-21. The Marlins would claim four of the next five points to take a 1-0 match lead.
- VWU led by as many as four, midway through the second set at 16-12 but the Maroons would chip away, eventually taking a 21-20 lead. However, like the first set, the Marlins went on to win five of the final six points to win the set 25-22 and lead the match 2-0.
- After six points in the third set, the match was tied at 3-3. The Marlins then went on a 10-1 run to jump out to a 13-4 lead. VWU would lead by as many as 12 before closing out the match with a 25-11 set three win.
