The Short Story: The Roanoke women's volleyball team completed their weekend of ODAC action with a 3-0 sweep of Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the score tied at 11-11 in the first set, the Royals went on a 5-1 run to put themselves ahead 16-12. However a 6-1 by the Maroons gave them one of their multiple leads of the set. A quick 3-0 run by the home team was answered by a 6-1 run by Roanoke before closing out the first set 25-22 two points later.
- EMU would once again have as much as a five-point lead midway through the second set at 16-11 before the Maroons began to chip away at 22-19. A kill by Ryanna Clark was followed by four-straight Royal attack errors and two Maroon blocks to give the Maroons the 2-0 match lead with another 25-22 set win.
- The third set saw Roanoke take a mid-set lead at 17-10 and 22-15. But a 7-0 stretch by EMU tied the score up at 22-22. The Maroons would get a set point at 24-22 followed by a Royal point. A kill by Rylee Mayer sealed the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Clark led the Maroons with 10 kills over the three sets.
- Even with the match being just three sets, Kylee Draper recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 18 assists and 15 digs.
- The win over EMU snapped a two-match skid to the Royals. Previously the Maroons had won 19 straight against the Harrisonburg team from 2003 until 2021.

- Roanoke will have a quick break before returning home on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when they welcome Virginia Wesleyan to the Cregger Center. Match time with the Marlins is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
