The Lead: Lynchburg clipped No. 16 Roanoke 17-16 Saturday night in ODAC Men's Lacrosse action. It marks the fifth time in the last seven meetings between the two teams that has been decided by one goal.

How it Happened

  • Andrew Thomas scored just six seconds into the game to give LC a 1-0 lead.
  • IV Stucker scored less than two minutes later to even the game and spark a 5-1 run for the Maroons that was capped by a Brendan Devane man-up goal that made it 5-2 Maroons with 1:06 to go in the first quarter.
  • Thomas scored as time was running out in the first quarter to make it 5-3. Lynchburg then used a 7-1 run in the second quarter to take a 10-6 lead with six minutes to go in the half.
  • RC got back-to-back goals from Stucker and Peter Lindley to go to the locker room trailing 10-8.
  • LC scored a pair of goals in the opening minutes of the third quarter to go up 12-8 before Roanoke rallied getting the first of six unanswered goals from Jason Sarro at the 11:15 mark.
  • A Chad Fisher goal 13 seconds after Sarro made the score 12-10, then Cameron Linsley, Lindley, Kevin Jackson and Devane scored to put RC up 14-12 with 6:32 to go in the third.
  • LC got a goal from Daniel Owens to head to fourth quarter down 14-13. LC then scored two goals in just over a minute to take a 15-14 lead with 12:33 to play in the game.
  • Steven Jackson pulled RC even with a tally at the 11:54 mark followed by a Sarro strike with 8:23 to play to put the Maroons out in front 16-15.
  • Evan Lombardo pulled the Hornets even with a goal then Harrison Brennan scored the game-winner with 3:52 left on the clock.
  • RC outshot LC 51-31 and held a 43-39 edge in groundballs, led by Conn Curry with nine and Robby Moore with seven.
  • Lindley and Sarro finished with three goals each for RC, while Linsley had two goals and three assists for a team-high five points.

Up Next: Roanoke is off until April 8 when it hosts Hampden-Sydney at 2:30 p.m.
