The Lead: PSU-Harrisburg used a big four-run fifth inning to slip past Roanoke 7-5.

How it Happened:
  • The Maroons got the action started in its half of the second inning after a single by Scott Ellis scored Lucas Nowlin to give RC the early 1-0 lead.
  • Roanoke would strike again in the bottom of the third after Craig Kiley hit a lead-off double to start the inning. Kiley advanced to third on a passed ball and Joe Larimer hit him in after grounding out to short stop.
  • In the top of the fifth, PSU-Harrisburg capitalized on its opportunities and rallied to put up four runs off of four hits and one error by Roanoke.
  • The Maroons pushed across one run in the bottom of the sixth after Eli Sumpter reached base via an error and worked his way around the bases to score off of another error by PSU-H.
  • The Nittany Lions were able to score one run in the seventh inning and two runs in the eighth inning giving them the 7-3 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the ninth Roanoke started a rally and loaded the bases after hits by Drew MIkula and Dan Brodeur and a walk by Will Decker. Clark Crutchfield came in to pinch hit with two outs and hit a single to right field scoring Brodeur.
  • In the next at bat, Nowlin walked to score Decker making the score 7-5 Penn State-Harrisburg. With the bases still loaded, Sumpter hit a hard ground ball to third base, but it was fielded cleanly and the Nittany Lion's third basemen stepped on third to end the game.
  • Brodeur and Kiley both were 2-for-5 at the plate leading Roanoke offensively. Ellis was 1-for-4 hitting, but also walked, had one RBI and stole two bases.
  • Michael Mares threw 2.2 innings of scoreless relief keeping RC within distance while striking out four. Kiley also threw 1.2 scoreless innings in addition to his offensive performance.
