Men's Soccer Advances To ODAC Semifinals After Topping EMU 1-0

Box Score SALEM – The Roanoke College men's soccer team advances to the 2014 ODAC Tournament semifinals after defeating Eastern Mennonite 1-0 on Saturday.  The Maroons now have a record of 14-2-2, while the Royals finish their season with a mark of 8-10-2.

The Maroons, who received votes in the latest NSCAA Top-25 poll, reach the semis for the first time since 2012, after having been knocked out in the 2013 ODAC quarterfinals.  Tonight's win marks head coach Ryan Pflugrad's first win in the ODAC Tournament.  Roanoke is currently on a seven game win-streak and has gone without a loss in the last 10 games.  This is the longest streak without a loss for the Maroons since the 2008 season, where the team went 14-4-2.

Roanoke's lone goal of the contest came just moments into the second half as Marc Dinkel sent a pass on to Christopher Fisher, who put the ball squarely away in the right side of the goal for the 1-0 advantage.  Fisher has scored the last two game winners for the Maroons, while ODAC Player of the Week Marc Dinkel, has had his hand in netting a goal, either by goal or assist, in four of the last five games.

Roanoke outshot Eastern Mennonite 17-4.  Dinkel led the Maroons in shots on the night, firing off four, two of which were on goal.  Tyler Carbaugh, Robby Lentine, Cole Thornton, Garrett Eldridge and Jackson Goyette all finished with two shots on the evening.  Cole Sinclair played all 90 minutes in the net, tallying two saves.

The Royals were led by Juan Luna, who took two shots on the evening.  David Hooley and Dylan Polley each took one attempt at the goal during the contest as well.  Ryan Zerkel played a complete game in net finishing with six saves.

Eastern Mennonite led in corner kicks on the night, attempting five to Roanoke's four.

The Maroons will go on to play the #5 seed Washington and Lee on Tuesday, November 4th in Kerr Stadium.  The ODAC Semifinal match will have a start time of 7:00 PM.
