Valles Breaks School Scoring Record in ODAC-Opening win over Hollins

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke score 10 goals in the first eight minutes and never trailed in a 25-1 victory over cross-town foe Hollins, 25-1 in the ODAC-opener for both teams at Kerr Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons improve to 2-0 on the season, while Hollins dropped its season-opener.
Senior Gina Valles (South Windsor, CT, Westminster ) broke the all-time scoring mark at Roanoke with her 299th career point which came off an assist early in the second half. She passed former All-American and Roanoke Hall of Fame Inductee Ali Ogelsby (Bryn Mawr, PA, Shipley) '98 for the record. She needs four more points to move into second on the ODAC's all-time list.
Roanoke outshot Hollins, 33-4, including a 20-4 advantage in groundballs and 19-5 in draw controls.
Shelia Anthony scored Hollins' only goal of the contest with just over four-minutes left in the first half off an assist from Erica Bruce. Anthony won three draw controls and forced two turnovers on the day.
Valles finished with four goals and six assists for 10 points on the day. She also won six draw controls and caused three turnovers. Rosie Knisley (Columbus, OH, Upper Arlington) and Meegan Rourke (Greenwich, CT, Millbrook School) totaled four goals and two assists while Emily Knade (Easton, MD, St. Peter and Paul) racked up four goals and an assist in her second collegiate game.
Carolyn Miller (Clinton, MD, St. Mary's Ryken) and Jamie Golden (Timonium, MD, Notre Dame) helped spread the wealth today, dishing out four and three assists, respectively, while netting two goals each. Kathleen Wager (Lexington, VA, Rockbridge County) won four draw controls for the Maroons.
The women will travel to Myrtle Beach, SC to play against Ursinus (March 7) and Elizabethtown (March 9) during their spring break trip.
