Roanoke Earns Big Win Over #13 Cabrini, 21-7

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke defeated #13 Cabrini, 21-7 this afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons improved to 5-0 while the Cavaliers fell to 2-2. They are now 3-1 all-time against Cabrini and set a new series high in goals, posting 21.
Roanoke, which is ranked #5 in the latest USILA Top-20 poll, outshot Cabrini 50-38 and collected 57 groundballs, while Cabrini picked up 43. The Maroons, who scored over 20 goals for the fourth time this season, were 22-for-27 in clear attempts.
Cabrini's Andrew Protenic scored the first goal of the contest just under three minutes to take the early advantage. Roanoke answered back less than a minute later, as Jeff Keating (Chatham, NJ, Chatham)took a feed from Will Fletcher (Roanoke, VA, Woodberry Forest)to start the Maroons on what would be 10 unanswered goals.
The Maroons continued to keep their high-octane offense in high gear, scoring 10 of the ensuing 14 goals to up their lead to 20-5 early in the fourth period.
Trey Keeley (Lancaster, PA, Conestaga Valley High School)and Matt Quinton (Elora, Ontario, Canada, Kitchener Braves)led the Maroons with five points apiece. Quinton finished with three goals and two assists to give him 19 goals and 24 points on the season. Keeley posted two goals and three assists. Pat March (Glen Burnie, MD, Mt. St. Joseph)finished with a team-best four goals.
Nine different Maroons had at least one goal, including Keating, who scored two goals and dished out two assists. Ashton Hotchkiss (Darien, CT, Darien)and Steve Furdock (Birmingham, MI, Birmingham Seaholm)each had had two goals and an assist each, while Justin Tuma scored three goals and six ground balls.
Freshman Richard Lachlan (Port Coquitlam, B.C., Terry Fox Secondary)scored two goals to give him 14 on the season, which is good for second on the team. Greg Khanzadian (Syracuse, NY, Christian Brothers)led the way from the face-offs, winning 10-of-15 draws.
Jake Dorsey (Woodbine, MD, Mt. St. Joseph)was on fire for the Maroons between the pipes today, allowing only six goals with a season-high 17 saves. He was relieved in fourth quarter by Kyle Hagens (Chatham, NJ, Chatham)who made three saves and allowed one goal.
Paul Skulski had a team-high five points for Cabrini netting two goals and adding three assists. Casey Grugan extended his consecutive games with scoring a point, which is the longest active in Division III. Erick Zarzecki made 11 saves while letting in 19 goals before being pulled in favor of James Caruso early in the fourth quarter. Caruso made four saves while allowing two goals.
Roanoke will be back in action next Saturday as they take on Dickinson. The Maroons defeated Dickinson last season 14-13. Faceoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Kerr Stadium.
