Thomas Leads Roanoke to 20-3 win at Guilford in ODAC Action

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Zach Thomas had four goals and an assist in visiting Roanoke College's 20-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse victory at Guilford College Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons (13-0, 3-0 ODAC) are ranked second in this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Poll.
The Maroons, ranked #2 in this week's USILA Div. III Top-20 poll, are now 26-2 against the Quakers and have scored 20 or more goals in the last three meetings, outscoring Guilford, 65-9. The eight 20-goal games are tied with the 1992 and 1993 squads for the school-record while the 13 wins are two shy of tying the single-season mark at Roanoke.
Roanoke outshot Guilford, 74-23, and scooped up 56 ground balls to the Quakers' 41. The Maroons were successful in 23-of-27 clear attempts.
After Guilford's Chris Ashcraft opened the scoring 1:48 into the contest, Roanoke reeled off the next 19 goals and held the Quakers (3-7, 1-3 ODAC) scoreless until the fourth quarter. Thomas scored all four of his goals in the first half, which helped the Maroons take an 11-1 halftime lead.
10 different Maroons netted goals in the game, including six with multiple scores. Joseph Coretti and Jeff Keating both scored three goals. Steve Furdock added two goals and two assists.
Greg Khanzadian won eight of nine face-offs and scooped up a game-high seven ground balls Josh Rea won six-of-seven face-offs and picked up six ground balls. The Maroons won 21-of-27 face-offs.
Guilford was led by Ashcraft's two goals. Ryan Walsh and Mark Guillen combined for 21 saves in goal. Walsh also had six ground balls.
Jake Dorsey got his 30th career win in goal for the Maroons, picking up two saves. Nick Peck came in to play the final three periods to rack up a season-best eight saves.
The men travel to Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday, April 11 to take on Lynchburg College in ODAC action. The Maroons are 28-6 all-time against the Hornets and will look to avenge an 18-10 loss to end their season last spring. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
