Maroons Roll Past Quakers

The men's lacrosse team rolled to a 25-6 victory over Guilford College on Wednesday afternoon at Donald J. Kerr Stadium. The men improved to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in the ODAC. The Quakers dropped to 2-9, 0-4 in conference play.
The Maroons won a much-needed ODAC contest which still mathematically keeps them in the hunt for the post-season. With a win over Lynchburg and two Hornet losses, the Maroons will earn a bid into the ODAC Tournament.
The Maroons scored the first four goals and never looked back as they cruised to their eighth victory of the season. Roanoke is 25-2 all-time vs. Guilford and has not lost to the Quakers since 1991. It was their
Roanoke dominated in every statistical category. They won in shots (78-22), groundballs (70-33), won 26-of-35 face-offs and 31-of-34 in clear attempts.
Without junior All-American candidate Chas Carlson, Pat March stepped up and had a great performance with four goals and two assists on the afternoon.
Mat Nicola had two goals and Matt Quinton finished with two goals and two assists. Ben Sultze and Noah Gibby had three goals on the day. Andrew McMannis, Ashton Hotchkiss had two goals.
Stephen Simmons had a goal and two assists while Tim Hammernick finished with a goal and an assist.
Billy Cameron finished with three groundballs and won 6-of-9 face-offs in the win. He also netted one goal and had an assist. He is now 25 GB's away from breaking the 23-year school-record.
Jake Dorsey had six saves for the Maroons while Andrew Vigne finished with 24 for Guilford.
The men will host Lynchburg College on Saturday, April 18 on Alumni Weekend. The Maroons will honor the 1978 Div. II National Championship Team, marking the 30th anniversary of their accomplishment. The Maroons hold a commanding 28-5 all-time advantage vs. the Hornets, including the last five-straight. Both teams are ranked in the top-20 in the nation. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
