The women's lacrosse team defeated Sweet Briar, 20-5 on Wednesday evening in ODAC action. The Maroons improved to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the ODAC while the Vixen dropped to 2-4, 0-3 in ODAC play. Roanoke is 25-4 against Sweet Briar all-time, including the last two by a combined score of 37-9.
Roanoke jumped out to an 11-1 lead at the half and never looked back as they coasted to their fourth victory of the season, breaking a four-game skid. The Maroons outshot the Vixen, 42-15 and won the groundball battle, 26-20.
After a Sweet Briar goal made it 1-0, the Maroons scored 11 unanswered points to end the first half. The Vixen started the second half the same as the first with the opening goal. Roanoke countered with three-straight goals and eight of the next nine to seal the win.
Amanda Hutchins led the Maroons with five goals, giving her #100 for her career and has 102 for her career, which places her 13
th all-time. She also moved into 21
st in career points with 118, just three away from passing Emily Hearn '05 to crack the top-20.
The women will host Lynchburg at Donald J. Kerr Stadium on Wednesday, April 2 in ODAC action. The Maroons are 21-15 against the Hornets, including the last two meetings. LC is currently 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the ODAC. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
