Roanoke, Va. --- The women's lacrosse team defeated Hollins, 24-1 in the ODAC season-opener on Tuesday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in the ODAC while Hollins dropped to 0-2, 0-2 in ODAC play.

Roanoke outscored Hollins, 18-0 in the first half and never looked back as they outshot them, 39-8. Pam Cruz had the lone goal for Hollins.

Sunni Ray led the Maroons with five goals and two assists. Amanda Hutchins scored four goals and had one assist in the victory. Paige Mason arguably had the biggest day, scoring three goals and dished out a career-high six assists. Gina Valles had three goals and two assists.

Katlyn Scarlett finished with three saves while Carolyn Wise had one for Roanoke. Defensively, Lindsey Meyer finished with a team-high four groundballs and three caused turnovers while Carolyn Clark had three groundballs. Valles, Alida Haslett and Emily Armstrong each collected two groundballs and two caused turnovers apiece.

The Maroons will host Randolph-Macon on Friday, March 14 in their 2008 home-opener. Roanoke defeated R-MC, 9-8 in the ODAC Semifinals last season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
