The women's basketball team defeated Hollins University, 102-24 at the Bast Center on Friday evening. The Maroons improved to 11-8 overall and a 9-5 mark in ODAC play. Hollins dropped to 0-19, 0-15 in the ODAC.
The point total and the scoring margin are both season-highs for Roanoke. It was also the seventh win out of the last eight games for the Maroons, with their only loss to #12 Randolph-Macon, 60-58 on the road last weekend.
Hollins stayed within five, 10-5 after a three-pointer by
Tamara Phillips with 14-minutes in the first half. From that point, the Maroons closed the half on a 45-3 run to head into the half with a 55-8 score. Senior
Erin Hanson led all scorers with 14 first half points.
The Maroons blistered the nets from beyond the arc, shooting 61-percent in the first half. Sophomore
Lindsay Skaff scored nine points in the half hitting all three of her three-pointers attempted.
The Maroons shot 53-percent from the floor, holding Hollins to 26-percent, holding their opponent to a season-low 24 points.
Roanoke out rebounded Hollins 42-25, outscored them 63-3 off turnovers, 42-6 in the paint, 13-2 second chance points, 16-0 off fast break points and 58-2 off the bench. It was the sixth time in the last eight games that the Maroons have eclipsed over 40 rebounds.
Roanoke had season-highs in steals (25), assists (28), three-pointers made (13), three-point percentage (59.1%), field goals made (37) and field goal percentage (52.9%). They placed in points (T-8th), assists (5th) and steals (4th) for single-game teams records.
Skaff ended up with a career-highs of 16 points, four three-pointers, three rebounds and dished out five assists. Hanson finished with a game-high 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Jenkins scored 12 points as she shot 5-of-7 from the floor.
Sydney Webb had career-highs of nine points and three treys.
Virginia Anne Hagood dished out a career-best five assists while scoring eight points and pulled down four rebounds.
Jordan Gholson finished with 10 points, five boards and a career-high six steals.
The women return to action tomorrow in Lexington, Va. as they play against Washington & Lee. The Maroons fell to the Generals, 61-57 at home on Jan. 11. The Maroons lead the all-time series, 25-3 but W&L has won three of the last five meetings. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
