SALEM, VA--Chelsea Rankin and
Amanda Hutchins each scored four goals to lead the Roanoke College women's lacrosse team to a 17-4 win over Sweet Briar College on Thursday in Salem. The Maroons improve to 11-2 on the year and finish their Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season schedule with a 6-2 mark. The Vixens are now 4-12, 1-7 in the ODAC.
Rankin scored the first of her four goals just 28 second into the contest. Hutchins scored the next three and with 10:10 elapsed in the contest the Maroons led 4-0. Roanoke's lead got out to 6-0 before the Vixens got on the board. Roanoke owned an 8-1 lead after an
Ella Wade goal, but gave Sweet Briar its second goal of the game on an own goal. The Maroons attempted to scoop a loose ball back to goalie
Katlyn Scarlett, but the ball went in the goal instead, making the score 8-2.
Ahead 8-3 at halftime, the Maroons scored the first five goals of the second half and then after allowing Sweet Briar Julie Sellers to score, got the final four of the game, two each from
Sunni Ray and
Brooks Laufman.
The Maroons close out their regular season on Saturday in a home game against the Pride of Greensboro College. The non-conference game in Salem begins at 2:00pm.
