LYNCHBURG, VA--Trailing by four goals with less than a minute to play in the game, the Roanoke College men's lacrosse team tied the score in regulation and then got the game-winning strike from Billy Cameron 12 seconds into overtime to upset #4 Lynchburg College. The Maroons, who have won four straight over the Hornets, improve to 7-4 overall, 1-1 in the ODAC. Lynchburg is now 7-1, 1-1 in league play.

The Maroons trailed 16-12 with less then a minute showing on the clock. Junior Matt Duke, who had missed the previous three games, made the score 16-13 with an unassisted goal with 50 second left. Cameron, who went 18-for-21 on face-offs in the game, won the ensuing face-off and again it was Duke scoring an unassisted goal, this to make the score 16-14 with 36 seconds left.

Again Cameron won the face. He ran down the wing, moved the ball to freshman Ashton Hotchkiss, who made a move from behind the cage and scored 11 seconds later, making the score 16-15 with 25 second left,

After Cameron won another face-off, Roanoke sophomore Chaz Carlson made a move from the top of the box with 16 seconds left, Carlson beat his defender, but had his 10-yard shot clang off the pipe. The ball went straight up in the air. Out of a scrum of players came Roanoke freshman Steve Furdock with the ball. Furdock dove towards the crease and while on the way down scored the game-tying score with just 4.8 seconds left in regulation.

Cameron won the overtime face-off. He ran down the left wing, and after his Lynchburg defender slipped, made a move to the cage. Cameron capped the comeback for the Maroons, beating Lynchburg goalie Garrett Curran off-hip just 12 seconds into the extra period.

Roanoke is back in action Wednesday at 3:30pm against Widener University. The game is scheduled to be played in Roanoke's new FieldTurf stadium.
