SWEET BRIAR, VA--The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team scored the final two goals and held host Sweet Briar College scoreless over the final 22:41 in a 9-7 victory on Tuesday afternoon. The Maroons are now 5-4 overall on the season and improve to 2-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Sweet Briar, which beat the Maroons during the 2005 season, falls to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

With the score even at five at halftime, Sweet Briar sandwiched two second half goals around two Maroons goals, the second of those tallies coming with 22:41 left in the game. The Maroon defense would hold Sweet Briar scoreless the rest of the way and in the process got two goals from freshman Kayla Moore. The first of Moore's came with 12:22 left in the game, the second with 11:12 left. Ella Wade and Amanda Barker had Roanoke's two other second half goals.

The first half was tight as well, with neither team able to take more than a one-goal lead and the score even four different times. Senior Kally Perkins had the first and last goals of the first half for the Maroons, while Chelsea Rankin added two Maroon goals. In the first half Wade scored the first of her two goals, that one evening the score at three with 8:54.

The Maroons held a sizeable 23-6 lead in shots during the first half, but the Sweet Briar goalie, Emily Fitzpatrick was able to stop nine of those. In the second half, Roanoke keeper Kaitlyn Scarlett matched that total, finishing with 10 saves in the RC victory. Overall, the Maroons outshot Sweet Briar 34-18 on the day and got a game-best four caused turnovers from Rankin.

The Maroons are back in action on Thursday in a home game against the Pride of Greensboro College. The game is scheduled for a 4:00pm start.
