SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team snapped a five-game losing streak and got goals from 12 different players in a 21-2 win over Hollins University on Thursday afternoon in Salem, VA. The Maroons improve to 2-6 on the season and 1-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, while Hollins falls to 1-4 and 0-3 in the ODAC.
The Maroons jumped out to a 15-0 lead at halftime, getting goals from eight different players in the first 30 minutes of action.
Mary Stewart Malone got the scoring started for the Maroons, getting a goal just 48 seconds into the contest. Sophomore Cindy Hamblen gave the Maroons a 2-0 with the first of her two first half goals, and
Amanda Hutchins and
Chelsea Rankin extended the lead out to 4-0. Later in the half,
Laura Bachmann scored her first goal of the season, with 9:34 left to give the Maroons a 13-0 lead.

Bachmann opened the scoring in the second half of play to make the score 16-0 Roanoke's way. After
Danielle Courtney scored her first college goal, a free position shot to make the score 17-0, Hollins' Amy Fitzwater scored back-to-back goals to make the score 17-2.
Kendall Maggi and
Jess Blough responded for the Maroons, both getting the first goals of their collegiate careers. Roanoke freshman
Emily Schmidt capped the Maroon scoring, also getting the first goal of her Roanoke tenure.
The Maroons are back in action on Saturday afternoon in a road game against Catholic (DC) University. The Maroons will then play at Villa Julie (MD) College on Sunday.
