As a Roanoke College volleyball alum, Blair Trail took over the program in 1999.
With a win over Lynchburg on September 22, 2023, Trail became a member of the 400 career-win club.
Trail has had 18 winning seasons during her tenure, including seven seasons (2015, 2014, 2010, 2008, 2007, 2003 and 2002) with 20 or more wins. The Maroons have recorded 14 winning seasons in ODAC conference play and made appearances in the ODAC tournament in 23 of the 26 years Trail has led the squad. Roanoke has also reached the league tournament championship match three times under Trail.
In 2015, Trail guided the team to a school record 16 straight victories to start the season, which is also the second most consecutive win streak for the program. In addition, RC's 22 wins that season are the most wins since 2008 and the fourth most in single-season history.
In her time at the helm of the program, Trail has had 26 All-ODAC honorees. She also helped develop two ODAC Rookie of the Year award winners in Brooke Bostwick and Lindsey Bailey. Bailey also became the first All-American in program history in 2018 with Trail’s guidance.
After transferring from Division I Radford University prior to the 1997 season, Trail set several school records, including most kills in one match (24 vs. Randolph-Macon Women’s College). In her two seasons in an RC uniform (1997-98), Trail racked up 517 kills. In addition to her record setting kill performances, Trail also established a school record when she tallied 28 digs in a match against Ferrum College in 1998.
Trail was named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s First Team as a senior. She was the first Maroon named to the league’s first team all-conference squad since 1995.
Trail graduated from Roanoke in May of 1999 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Trail and her son Landon, live in Roanoke.
