2001: McConnell brings neither the flair nor the hype that many players receive, but his contributions to the success of the Maroons over the past three seasons are nearly countless. A First Team All-Conference selection in each of the past two seasons, McConnell is the team's leader on the field, dominating play from his midfield position. Prior to the 2001 season, McConnell's defensive skills were known, but last season he showed an offensive side, scoring a career-high six goals. His ability to control and dictate the flow of the game, in both directions, has decided the outcome of many games for the Maroons. Again, McConnell will be a top candidate for All-American honors, this after receiving All-Region accolades in each of the past two seasons.
2000: Ace often takes a backseat in the public eye to some of his teammates, but let there be no myth, he is perhaps Roanoke's top field player. His ability to control the pace of the game has been vital to Roanoke's success in the past, especially in 2000. A first team All-Conference pick, McConnell scored three goals and had six assists last season, but his play dictating the flow of the game in the midfield was surpassed by no one in the conference. A warrior on the field, McConell played parts of last season battling injury, but missed just one contest. An All-Region selection a season ago, McConnell will make a case for All-American honors in 2001.
