Urbanek became a member of the Maroons Athletic Training staff in the fall of 2011 after a two-year stint on staff at the University of Findlay. While at Findlay, Shawn worked with Men's Soccer, Cross Country and Track & Field. At Roanoke, he will serves as a teaching associate in the Health and Human Performance department, teaching in the Exercise Science Major for Clinical Medicine.

Shawn earned his B.S. in Athletic Training at Marietta College (Ohio) in 2007. While a student-athlete, Urbanek was a four-year soccer player and team captain for the Pioneers. In 2009, he received his M.S.Ed from Virginia Tech. While in Blacksburg, he worked with Football, Women's Soccer, Women's Tennis, and Softball. In addition to his different certifications and licenses, has been a member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) since 2008.

Urbanek resides in Salem with his wife Jenny, daughter Lyla and twin daughters Lacy and Lexi.
