Head men's lacrosse coach Bill Pilat '85 has named Zach Louie '19 as an assistant men's lacrosse coach beginning with the 2024 season.

Prior to joining the Maroons' coaching staff, he most recently served as the head coach at ODAC member Ferrum College. He first joined Ferrum's staff as Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach in 2020-21, and was named Interim Head Coach in August 2022. He was then named Head Men's Lacrosse Coach in October 2022.

Louis was named Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator in September 2021 and is responsible for all phases of the Panther’s defensive system. His prior professional experience has given him the tools to manage all aspects of the Panthers recruiting strategy, monitoring the staff’s recruiting correspondents, coordinating on campus and in-person visits, implementation of the recruiting communication plan, and aiding with the onboarding for incoming commits.

In addition to overseeing Ferrum's defense and recruiting, Louie aids with day-to-day team operations and academic monitoring. As a certified strength and conditioning specialist, he assists with the team's sports performance training, focusing on speed, agility, and quickness development.

In 2021 Louie assisted with the defense, working closely with the defensive midfield unit. His position group tallied 22 caused turnovers and 85 ground balls. Under Louie’s guidance Adam Brooks led the charge in both categories with nine caused turnovers and 33 ground balls. In addition to working with the defensive midfield unit, Louie oversaw the face-off unit and managed the substitution box on game days.

Prior to joining the Ferrum staff, Louie worked as a Processor for Acquisition Title and Settlement in Roanoke, Virginia, and was the Chief Scribe at Lewis Gale Medical Center. A 2019 graduate from Roanoke College with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Louie is currently pursuing a second degree in nursing at Ferrum College.

During his time at Roanoke, the team was a three-time ODAC Tournament semifinalist. Louie made appearances in 32 games for the Maroon’s defense to average only 9.64 goals-against per game. He received the Paul S. Griffin coach’s award for dedication and leadership to the program at Roanoke.
