Roanoke’s second-half goal not enough to overcome Hope’s strong start

Salem, Va. - The Roanoke College men's soccer team scores one in the second but is unable to stop Hope's Seth Walters as he scores a hat trick on the Maroons.

How It Happened  

  • Seth Walters scored a first-half brace before completing his hat-trick on a free kick 40 seconds into the second half.  

Notes and Notables  

  • Burke and O'Laughlin each recorded their first assist of the season.  

  • Eight different players recorded a shot for Roanoke.  

  • Both goalkeepers combined for only three saves in the game; Denzel Marufu had one, and Cooper Hutt had two.  

  • The Flying Dutch had the advantage over the Maroons in shots, 15-8, and corners, 7-3.   

Up Next  
The Maroons play again this Saturday (Sept. 19) against Sailsbury in their final match before starting conference play. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
