Roanoke College Cycling opened its mountain bike season in dominant fashion this past weekend at Virginia Tech, capturing six podium finishes across the two-day event. Everett Radock led the charge in the Cat 1 division, bringing home 1st-place finishes in both the Cross-Country(XCO) and Short Track (XCC) events, along with a 3rd-place effort in the Cat 2 Enduro.

Griffin McMurray put on an impressive display of his own, sweeping the Cat 2 field with 1st-place finishes in both XCO and XCC. Gus Lynott turned in a strong ride to secure second place in the Cat 2 XCO, while Aidan Goldberg battled to a sixth-place finish in Cat 2 XCO and a 4th-place result in the Cat 3 Enduro.

Virginia Tech put on an incredible event for the athletes, featuring a physically demanding XCO course packed with technical downhills, relentless uphill rock gardens, and punishing climbs that tested every racer on the line. Heading into the XCO course without a pre-ride, Radock relied on sharp race tactics to secure the win, following a local VT riders' wheel before launching a decisive attack on the final lap. McMurray took control early in his race, establishing a commanding lead from the start and pulling away from the rest of the field. In the XCC, Radock and McMurray showed off their skills during the high intensity effort, catching some air on a jump line descent midway through the course.

The Enduro brought a different set of challenges for Goldberg and Radock as storm clouds rolled in, turning the event into a race against the elements. As they crested the hill for the final timed stage, the skies opened up and completely flipped the trail conditions, turning the last run into a high-speed slip-and-slide.

The Maroons carry massive momentum from this weekend into the rest of their season and are back in action this Sunday as they host the Go Noke! MTB XC race at Explore Park. Come out and support the team!!
