Baseball picks up Senior Day sweep of EMU

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team earned the Senior Day sweep as they took down Eastern Mennonite in conference play. 

Game 1 Information 
Roanoke 11, Eastern Mennonite 2 
Records: Roanoke (14-4, 3-2), Eastern Mennonite (8-9, 1-3) 
Location: Salem, Va. (Salem-Memorial Ballpark) 

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • After scoring a pair of runs in the third, RC put together a big six-run fifth inning. Eastern Mennonite added two in the top of the eighth, but the Maroons answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory. 

  • Chase Booth earned his third win of the season as he threw five scoreless innings with two strikeouts. 

  • Riley Fitzgerald got his second save of the year after throwing the remaining four innings. 

  • Olivera also posted a team leading three RBIs while Donaho had two.

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • The Maroons struck early yet again, tallying seven runs in the first two innings. Eastern Mennonite got two back in the third before RC added three in the fourth and fifth. Both teams rounded out the scoring in the sixth inning with both sides adding two runs in the inning. 

  • Thomas Burgess got his third win of the season after going 5.1 innings and striking out three. 

  • Jack Fehlner led all Maroons with three RBIs on two hits.  

  • Galloway led in hits with three while Donaho and Olivera joined Fehlner at two hits apiece. 

  • Murphy also had three walks in the game. 

  • Freshman Michael Hetzel hit his first career home run in the second inning.
