RC Softball splits two in Washington D.C.

The Facts:
Score: Case Western Reserve 5, Roanoke 2; Roanoke 6, Catholic 2
Location: Washington, D.C. – Catholic University Softball Field

The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team split a pair of non-conference games Sunday in Washington, D.C., falling to Case Western Reserve 5-2 and defeating host school Catholic University 6-2.  

How it happened (Case Western):
*Case Western scored twice in the first inning, but Ava Colontrel drilled a two-run home run to left field to tie the game.
*Case Western scored two in the fourth and one more in the seventh.   

Inside the numbers (Case Western):
*
Heather McQueeney went 3-3 with a walk and two stolen bases.
*Mackenzie Samuel worked three innings of relief and allowed just one run.  

How it happened (Catholic):
*The Maroons again struck for two runs in the first inning; McQueeney opened with a double, Riley Shupe singled - and both came around to score.
*McQueeney hit a two-run double in the fifth and Shupe followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 5-1.
*Kiran Kapur brought in another Maroon run in the sixth with a double.

Inside the numbers (Catholic):
*
Baylee Compton threw a complete game for the win, striking out seven Cardinals while allowing just four hits, three walks and one unearned run.
*McQueeney and Shupe each were 2-4.  
 
Up Next:
*Roanoke (2-4) travels to the University of Mary Washington Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
