ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Roanoke College men's volleyball team put up a strong fight with RV Elizabethtown, coming back from being two sets down, but ultimately fell in the fifth set.

How It Happened 

• The Maroons went up early in the first set, but Elizabethtown turned the tides in the middle of the set to give themselves a lead that they wouldn't relinquish. EC took the set 25-21. 

• The Blue Jays got out to a 6-1 lead to start the second set and while RC was able to bring it within one multiple times, Elizabethtown won 25-22. 

• It was a back and forth third set and just when EC looked like they would take the match, Roanoke tied it up at 24-24. After some extra volleyball, the Maroons put together a three-point run, which included a big block from Jackson Rutkowski, to take it 31-29. 

• RC kept the momentum in the fourth set, only allowing Elizabethtown to take the lead once. Roanoke took the set 25-18 to force a fifth set. 

• The Blue Jays put together multiple pairs of points to push ahead and take the fifth set 15-11. 

Notes and Notables 

• Rutkowski put together a season high of 17 kills to lead RC. Cade Kinne also hit double figure kills with 12 in the match. 

• Gabe Fabbro and Johnny Moran led the way in setting duties, recording 21 and 20 assists respectively. 

• CJ Kingston, Rutkowski, and Moran all registered double digit digs. Kingston had 14 while Rutkowski tallied 11, and Moran recorded 10. 

• Colin Mendoza had the team high in blocks with three on the afternoon. He was followed up by Michael Cummins and Rutkowski, who each had two. 

Up Next  
RC makes their way to North Carolina next Saturday (Feb. 14) to take on Warren Wilson at 1:00 pm. They will also scrimmage the Milligan University club team at 3:00 pm.
