RC comes up short with late push against Catholic

SALEM, Va. - Junior Maddie McDonald tied her career high in goals for the second time this season as the Roanoke College women's lacrosse team came up just short against Catholic.

How It Happened 

  • Roanoke struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the first quarter but locked it down defensively, leaving Catholic with just a 3-0 advantage going into the second. 

  • Maddie McDonald sparked the offense in the second, scoring four goals to help RC gain a 6-1 advantage in the quarter and go up 6-4 heading into halftime. 

  • In a game of runs, Catholic opened the third with four straight goals. McDonald then scored twice in the final three minutes to make it just a one goal deficit going into the final 15 minutes. 

  • Sydney Winpigler scored as the Maroons struck first in the fourth to knot the game at nine. However, CUA scored four unanswered to go up 13-9 with less than three minutes. RC made a final push, scoring three times in the last minute and a half, but ultimately came up short. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Maddie McDonald tied her career high in goals for the second time this season with seven. 

  • Fergusson and Jordan Wheeler posted a pair of caused turnovers each. 

  • McDonald also recorded seven draw controls while Tharaldson was the next closest Maroon in the category with four. 

  • Todd made 10 saves in goal for RC, making it her third straight game in the double digits.
