Maroons use late inning offensive bursts to power past William Peace

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team capitalized on solid starts from Thomas Burgess and Chase Booth to grab a pair of wins from William Peace on Saturday. 
 
Game 1 Information 
Roanoke 13, Greensboro 4 
Records: Roanoke (6-1, 0-0), William Peace (1-7, 0-0) 
Location: Salem, Va. (Salem-Memorial Ballpark) 

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • The Maroons were up 4-1 after six, but William Peace added two in the top of the seventh to bring it within one. Roanoke responded with an eight-run bottom of the inning to open the game up and help secure the first victory of the day. 

  • Thomas Burgess grabbed his second win of the year after going 6.2 innings and allowing just four hits while striking out three. 

  • Freshman Noah Donaho recorded his first career home run in the sixth. He also accounted for three runs and two hits in the contest. 

  • Nate Prince led in RBIs with three. He also had a pair of hits and a pair of walks. 

  • Jack Fehlner topped the squad in hits with three, including a double. He also added a pair of runs.

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • Roanoke carried their momentum into the second game, scoring in the second inning to take the lead. They then added the rest of their runs in the sixth and seventh innings to put the game out of reach for William Peace. 

  • Chase Booth was dominant on the mound as he picked up his second win. He struck out 10 in six innings of work and allowed just five base runners on the day. 

  • Junior Riley Fitzgerald snagged his first save as a Maroon after allowing just two hits and striking out two over three innings. 

  • Donaho continued to produce in game two, lacing a double in the sixth and hitting a three-run homer in the third. He finished the game with a team high four RBIs. 

  • Fehlner added two more runs batted in to his day's resume on a sac fly and a single. 

  • Meanwhile, Liam Murphy joined Donaho as the only two Maroons to be driven in on multiple occasions, accounting for two runs each.

The Maroons continue their home stand next week as they open with North Carolina Wesleyan on Tuesday (Mar. 3) at 2:00 pm.
