Trio of juniors tie career highs as women's lacrosse takes down Seahawks

SALEM, Va. - Juniors Maddie McDonald, Zoe Blair, and Kendall Todd all tied career highs as the Roanoke College women's lacrosse team opened their season with a 17-9 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland.

How It Happened 

  • The Maroons struck first with a pair of goals and then used a four-goal run to get out to a 7-3 advantage over SMCM.  

  • It was a lower scoring second quarter that saw both sides tally a pair of goals. RC went into the half with a 9-5 lead. 

  • Roanoke then scored the first three goals of the third quarter but allowed a pair to increase their lead by one. 

  • While SMCM bookended the final quarter with goals, the Maroons tallied five in between to bring the score to final. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Maddie McDonald tied her career high in goals with seven on the afternoon. She also led the squad in draw controls and ground balls with seven and three. 

  • Zoe Blair also tied a career high with five goals, doing so on seven shots, in the contest. 

  • Goalie Kendall Todd tied her career high in saves with 14 during her full 60 minutes of work. 

  • Jordan Wheeler led the Maroons in caused turnovers with three. She also added five draw controls and two ground balls. 

Up Next 
RC had a full week to prepare for their next matchup as they travel to Christopher Newport on Saturday (Mar. 21). That game is set for 3:00 pm in Newport News.
