This weekend we split into three teams to travel to three separate locations and race in three different cycling disciplines.
First up, we had
Nathaniel Gervez who was racing in Pulaski County, Virginia. This first-year event drew top-level Professional Gravel Cyclists to the area to compete for a $20,000 prize purse. The race featured 100 miles of gravel road racing with 12,000 feet of elevation in a unique format featuring multiple timed segments. With several strong professional riders in the field, Gervez knew he was in for a tough day, but he battled hard on the timed segments, beating the Pros on some of the segments and mostly just trying to hang on for the others. He ultimately finished 4th overall in the pro field, a super-strong performance on the day and great representation for the team.
Next, we had
Everett Radock who traveled with support from teammate,
Aidan Snow to Zirconia, North Carolina for an epic weekend of Mountain Biking at the Ride Rock Creek Bike Park. The event would serve as the final conference race of the season and a dual conference championship between the ACC and SEEC. Radock had a great weekend, competing in both endurance and gravity events Saturday and Sunday. Being one of his favorite XCO courses, Radock was excited for another opportunity to race at Rock Creek. He ended up finishing 22nd in a very competitive field.  Going into the Dual Slalom later that day, it was all about getting the experience he needed before heading to Nationals. Radock had another impressive result, finishing 6th in the men's 2/3 category. As the final day of racing arrived, Everett knew he wanted to finish the weekend strong, and after a hard-fought Short Track Race, he did so by finishing in 13th place out of the region's top collegiate athletes. Huge thank you to Rock Creek, Brevard College, and Warren Wilson College for putting together such a great event!Â
The main event for the weekend was the Virginia's Blue Ridge Go Cross CycloCross Races. With international-level races, the event draws elite professional riders from all over the country and all over the World to Fallon Park in Roanoke, Virginia for back-to-back days of racing. Roanoke College fielded a team of 3 men in the Elite Races, and 1 man and 2 women in the amateur categories.
William Dodds was our top finisher both days, representing well against the best riders in the country. He finished 14th and 15th on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Geert Fischer and newest member to the team, racing in his first ever UCI CX Race with Roanoke College, performed incredibly well, showing tons of potential leading into the rest of the season. He finished in 20th and 18th, while teammate and seasoned veteran on the Cross Bike finished out a solid weekend with 21st and 23rd place finishes.
Aidan Goldberg had a standout ride in the amateur men's race on Saturday, finishing in 3rd place and flying our RC colors on a podium that is not easy to step on to.
Lauren Weigel and
Ragan Weigel also performed well, both finishing in the top 10 of their amateur races and enjoying every second of the weekend with their team.
We look forward to another big weekend of International CycloCross Races in the Baltimore, MD area before traveling across the country next week to finish out the MTB season with Collegiate MTB National Championships in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Stay tuned!!
