The Short story: The Roanoke College women's team played strong Wednesday afternoon at Christopher Newport University - the third-ranked team in NCAA Division III, falling just 2-0.

The Captains scored two early goals but the game was even the rest of the way. Roanoke attempted more shots (4-3) than CNU in the second half and had several chances late to make it a one-goal game.
 
How it happened:
*CNU capitalized on a penalty kick 8:15 into the game, and added to the lead at 19:36.
*Roanoke almost took advantage of back-to-back corner kicks in the closing minutes, but Amy Sidaway made a fingertip stop of a Rebecca Carr shot.
  
Inside the numbers:
*Grace Suchy made four saves for Roanoke.
*Carr fired three shots, one on net.
*The Captains are now 45-0-5 in their last 50 games in Newport News, an unbeaten streak dating back to the 2019 season.
