The Short Story: Andrew Miller made a career high 21 saves Thursday to lead the University of Lynchburg to a 15-11 victory over the Roanoke College men's lacrosse team in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) semifinals.
The Maroons (13-6), who outshot Lynchburg 54-41 on the night, now awaits a possible at large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Hornets advance to face top-seeded Washington & Lee University in the conference finals Saturday at 2 p.m.
Wyatt Whitlow netted two goals to tie the school record for goals in a career. He now has 249 for his career, tying Jon Mason (2004-07).
How it happened:
*Lynchburg scored the game's first four goals, with four different goal scorers to force a Roanoke time out with 8:06 left in the first period.
*After a Hornet goal,
Wyatt Whitlow got Roanoke on the scoreboard and it was 5-1 after one period.

Blake Rieger scored from goalie
Chris Schwartz early in the second to cut the lead to 6-2. After a Lynchburg goal,
Patrick Cullen found the back of the net, but the home team netted the last three of the period to enter halftime ahead 10-3. Andrew Miller had 13 first half saves for Lynchburg.
*The teams traded a pair of goals to open the third period, with
Luke Kammerman and
Julian Kammerman each scoring.
Quinn Evans and Cullen scored at the end of the third to cut the lead to 12-7 entering the final 15 minutes.
*Lynchburg opened a six-goal lead but back-to-back Roanoke tallies from Whitlow and
Julian Kammerman cut the edge to 13-9. The Hornets scored twice to regain the six-goal lead and withstood two late Maroon tallies.
