Baseball sweeps Washington & Lee on the road

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team snagged a pair of road victories against Washington & Lee in conference play, taking game one in ten innings, 7-5, and game two, 6-2. 
 
Game 1 Information

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • RC got the scoring going in the second and fourth innings before WLU evened it up at 2-2. The Generals then went up 5-3 going into the ninth but RC evened it up by the time the top of the inning was over. Trevor Orth entered the game and got it done on the mound, allowing the Maroons to add two more in the tenth and go on to win the game. 

  • Orth nabs his fourth win of the season after pitching two innings and only allowed one hit while striking out four. 

  • Tyler Galloway drove in three on two hits and added a walk to help propel the Roanoke offense. 

  • Giordano and Prince joined Galloway as the only players to have multi-hit games. Giordano had a pair of doubles while Prince roped two singles. 

  • Danny Ferguson continues to get on base at the top of the order, getting a hit and drawing three walks in game one. 

  • Thomas Burgess got the start, going six innings and throwing nearly 100 pitches. Burgess allowed just two runs and fanned three in his outing. 

  • This was RC's fourth extra inning victory of the season.

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • W&L scored first in the bottom of the second, to which the Maroons responded with a tally of their own in the third before adding two more in the fourth. The Generals brought the game to within one in the bottom of the fourth, but Roanoke added a run in each of the final three innings to take the sweep. 

  • RC needed just two pitchers in game two. Mason Roy got his first start of the year and went four innings, surrendering just two runs and striking out two. Jackson Murphy then came in to finish off the game and grab the winning decision. Murphy allowed just six baserunners in five innings while striking out four.

RC returns home on Tuesday to take on Averett at Salem-Memorial Ballpark in a 6:00 pm conference contest.
