Maroon Men’s Lax drops 13-12 heartbreaker to No. 9 W&L

THE GAME FACTS

The Short Story: The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker Wednesday evening to No. 9 Washington & Lee University 13-12 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup to determine the regular-season champion and the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

The Maroons (12-5/8-2) enter the 2025 ODAC Tournament as the #3 seed, and will host a quarterfinal contest Tuesday. RC's two conference losses were each by a single goal to Lynchburg and W&L.

How it happened:
*The Generals scored the game's first two goals in under 1:30, but Roanoke put in the next four, two from Julian Kammerman, to go ahead 4-2. W&L scored the next three and the Maroons ended the first period with two goals to lead 6-5 after one.
*W&L took an 8-6 lead after three-straight goals and went into halftime ahead 9-8.
*Each team netted three goals in a tight third period.
*The Maroons opened the fourth quarter with a man-up opportunity but couldn't convert. The Generals went ahead 13-11 with 9:12 left but Luke Kammerman quickly countered 20 seconds later to make it a one-goal game. Neither team found the back of the net in the final 8:52 of the contest.
 
 Inside the numbers:
*Freshman goalie Chris Schwartz made 19 saves on the night, 11 in the second half.
*Julian Kammerman finished with four goals and an assist, while brother Luke Kammerman tallied two goals and three assists.
*Blake Rieger had a goal and two helpers.
*Luca Docking, Wyatt Whitlow, Clayton Bewick, Patrick Cullen and Quinn Evans also scored, and Noah Bell had an assist.
*Logan O'Sullivan, Ike Dutton and Schwartz each caused two turnovers and Weston Hammond scooped four groundballs.
*James Haley had four goals, two assists and three caused turnovers for W&L (13-3/9-0 ODAC).
*Tyler Spano won 15-of-23 faceoffs, had a game-high 11 groundballs and scored twice.
