Baseball splits with Hampden-Sydney on senior day

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team split with Hampden-Sydney in a senior day doubleheader, winning the first game 11-8 on a Kyle Moshier grand slam. 
 
Game 1 Information 
Roanoke 11, Hampden-Sydney 8 
Records: Roanoke (18-12-1, 10-4-1), Hampden-Sydney (14-17, 7-10) 
Location: Salem, Va. (Salem-Memorial Ballpark) 

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • Hampden-Sydney scored first but Roanoke responded with seven runs over the next two innings. HSC answered back to make it 8-7 going into the bottom of the ninth. Kyle Moshier walked it off the Maroons with a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. 

  • Kyle Moshier and Liam Murphy topped the team in RBIS after both hitting home runs in the game. Moshier had four while Murphy had three. 

  • Corey Coogan, Prince, and Ferguson accounted for the other RBIs in the contest. 

  • Trevor Orth added his fifth win of the season after throwing two innings of three hit ball while striking out one.

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • It was back and forth for the first six innings before Hampden-Sydney ended up pulling ahead in the final two innings. 

  • Liam Murphy led the squad with two hits and three RBIs. He also hit his second homer of the day and seventh of the year in the contest. 

  • Mason Roy got his third start of the year and put in a solid five innings. He allowed just four hits and one earned run while striking out three.
