No. 13 Salisbury takes two from Roanoke Softball

The Facts:
Scores: No. 13 Salisbury 7, Roanoke 0; No. 13 Salisbury 5, Roanoke 1
Location: Salem, Va. – Moyer Complex

The Short story:  The Salisbury University softball team, ranked No. 13 this week in NCAA Division III, swept Roanoke College Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader.

How it happened (Game 1):
*Salisbury scored one in the first and broke the game open with five in the fourth. A three-run triple from Carrie Jacoby was the big blow in the frame and SU added an insurance run in the sixth.
 
Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Kassidy Lancos, Adriana Rivera and Haleigh Vaughan all had hits for Roanoke.
*Baylee Compton allowed just one unearned run in her three innings of relief in the circle.
*Sydney Adolfson threw a complete game shutout for the Sea Gulls, allowing three hits, no walks with three strikeouts.
 
How it happened (Game 2):
*Erin Gorschboth hit a one-out single in the first and Rivera followed with a walk. Madison Cooke brought in Gorschboth with a single to centerfield.
*The Maroons held the 1-0 lead until SU plated two in the fifth, and followed with three insurance runs in the seventh.

Inside the numbers (Game 2)
*Cooke had three hits for RC.
*Maggie McCray struck out eight in her six innings.

Up Next:
*The Maroons (9-7) host Shenandoah University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
