Guilford defeats Maroons 79-74 in ODAC Title Game

The Game Facts:

The Short story: The fifth seeded Guilford College men's basketball team defeated third-seeded Roanoke College 79-74 Sunday in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Game in the Salem Civic Center.

The Quakers earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Maroons await a possible NCAA Tourney bid and will find out their future Monday at noon with the D3 selection show. RC is hosting a watch party in the Foyer of the Cregger Center. The Maroons, ranked No. 19 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, are 23-5 on the season and the loss breaks a nine-game winning streak.  

How it happened:  
*The Quakers made a three pointer to open the game, but Roanoke countered with an 11-2 run.
*Roanoke led 27-22 with 5:09 left in the first half. The Quakers finished the half with a 9-4 surge and the two teams entered intermission tied at 31. Marcus Morgan paced RC with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting, with four rebounds and two steals.
*Guilford opened a 48-42 edge at 13:33 and an 9-3 run put the Maroons ahead 53-51.  
*Roanoke held its last lead 60-59 on a Joshua McClary jumper with 5:31 remaining. Guilford pulled ahead for good with an 8-2 run and sealed the game at the free-throw line.

Inside the numbers:
*Jackson Bell hit 4-of-6 from three-point range to finish with a team-high 20 points. Morgan tallied 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
*Joshua McClary scored 15 of his 16 points in the second half, and added a game-high seven assists with six rebounds.
*Joshua Morse had six points and five rebounds while Porter Stanley had six points, four rebounds and two steals.
*Tournament MVP Nick Farrar from Guilford (22-6) finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
*Morgan and McClary were named to the All-Tournament Team.
*The Maroons, a 70 percent free-throw shooting team during the regular season, connected on 7-of-17 (41 %) Sunday.
