Baseball splits on Saturday after walking off game two

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team split the first two contests of a three game weekend series with Denison, walking off game two by a score of 12-11 on Saturday. 
 
Game 2 Information

Game 1 Notes & Notables 

  • Denison scored first but Roanoke answered with two runs of their own just an inning later. Denison exploded for eight runs in the sixth and added two more in the eighth. After adding one in the eighth RC made their push in the ninth but fell just short after tallying seven runs. 

  • Parker Stallard drove in a team leading four RBIs. He also added two hits and two runs. 

  • Liam Murphy also had a multi-RBI game after hitting his second homer of the year. 

  • Danny Ferguson made his first career start at catcher in the contest. He put up two runs, a hit, and an RBI.

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • Denison opened it up yet again with a tally in the first, however RC responded this time with three in the bottom. The Big Red outscored Roanoke 7-1 until the bottom of the sixth, in which the Maroons added three more to reduce the deficit. After Denison added two more in the seventh. Roanoke tied it up at 11 all in the eighth. Parker Stallard then finished the job in the bottom of the tenth with an RBI single to drive in Nate Prince

  • Trevor Orth earned his second win of the campaign after striking out one in a scoreless top of the tenth. 

  • Jack Fehlner was driven in three times, the most of any Maroon in the contest. 

  • Coogan and Nate Prince each walked twice in the affair. 

  • Swanson, like Ferguson in Game 1, made his first collegiate start at catcher. His stat line included two runs, two hits (one of which was a double), and two RBIs.
