Men's volleyball secures program's first ODAC win

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Roanoke College men's volleyball team took home their first ever ODAC victory in the program's first ODAC contest on Wednesday night. They came from behind for a 3-2 win over Randolph.

How It Happened 

  • Roanoke earned the first few points, but it was back and forth for the first half of the first set. RC started to pull away after scoring their twelfth point, creating a gap big enough to leave Randolph behind, 25-15. 

  • The second set started neck and neck with Randolph eventually getting out to a lead. The Maroons drew it back to level near the end, but Randolph took the set, 25-23. 

  • It stayed close in the third set but Randolph got it done at the end, winning the set 25-22. 

  • Roanoke was determined to answer back, getting out to a lead early in the set and holding steady to take a 25-22 in the fourth. 

  • RC kept the momentum going in the fifth, jumping out to an 8-2 advantage that was too much for the WildCats to overcome. The Maroons won the set 15-10. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Michael Cummins led the charge, tallying 18 kills in the match. He also registered a hitting percentage of .400 on the night. 

  • Teagan Cole racked up a career high 40 assists in the match. Additionally, Gabe Fabbro dished out 10 helpers. 

  • Kaeden Noble led the team in digs with 16 and was co-leader of the squad in receptions with 23. Rutkowksi shared the reception title with Noble. 

  • Connor Tyson also put in a respectable 18 receptions and 12 digs in the contest. 

  • Colin Mendoza had four blocks, one solo, and three assisted.  

  • Wheaton and Cummins also registered three blocks. Wheaton had a solo and two assists while Cummins had three assists. 

 
Up Next 
The Maroons head back to Pennsylvania this weekend to take on Rutgers-Newark and Elizabethtown on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 3:00 and 5:00 pm.
