Joshua McClary joins 1,000 point-club as Roanoke MBB upends No. 4 H-SC

The Short story: Senior guard Joshua McClary joined the 1,000-point club Saturday as the Roanoke men's basketball team upended the No. 4 team in NCAA Division III, Hampden-Sydney College, 81-72 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.

McClary scored a game-high 23 points to become the 44th student-athlete to join the 1,000-point club in Roanoke College men's basketball history. The Maroons, who received votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, move into second place in the conference standings at 13-2 overall.

How it happened:  
*Roanoke started the contest out on fire, opening a 15-2 lead at the 16:49 mark of the first half.
*The Tigers rallied to go ahead 40-39 at intermission.
*Hampden-Sydney took a 56-49 advantage with 13:20 left. A 13-0 run, fueled by nine points from McClary, put RC ahead 62-56 with just under eight minutes remaining.
*H-SC cut the lead to 62-61 at the 4:34 mark but could get no closer.

Inside the numbers:
*McClary added six assists and six rebounds. He entered the game with 984 points and now has 1,007 for his career (43rd place all time).
*Gavin O'Malley scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
*Joshua Morse had 14 points and nine rebounds.
*Jackson Bell scored 11 points and Marcus Morgan contributed 10 points, five assists and three steals.
*Ryan Truitt had four points, three steals and two blocked shots in 14 minutes and Patrick Clevenger snared nine rebounds.
*Adam Brazil scored 21 points for Hampden-Sydney (20-4/13-2).
