Tyler Barnes posted career-highs of 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists Wednesday night as the Roanoke College men's basketball team opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a 98-79 win at Guilford College.

Gavin O'Malley provided 23 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Maroons, ranked No. 14 this week by D3hoops.com.
How it happened:
*Guilford led 30-29 with 8:32 left in the first half, but a 15-1 Maroon surge put RC ahead 44-31 less than four minutes later. Roanoke held a 54-45 edge at intermission.
*Roanoke led just 57-52 early in the second half but gained a double-digit advantage for good at the 9:25 mark.
Inside the numbers:
*O'Malley shot 9-of-13 from the floor, while Barnes was 6-of-8 as RC was a red-hot 54 percent (37-68) overall. The Roanoke defense held GC to just 32.5 percent shooting (27-83) and the Maroons held a 55-40 rebounding edge.

Jackson Bell netted 20 points, while Barnes,
Caleb Franze and
Marcus Morgan each had 16 points. Morgan added five assists.
*Braylen Salters scored a game-high 27 points for Guilford (4-4/0-1 ODAC).
